CCIW Announces Softball Award Winners and All-Conference Teams

NAPERVILLE — Carthage junior outfielder Clare Rettler repeated as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year to headline the All-CCIW Softball Teams announced by the league office on Wednesday morning.

Additionally, Illinois Wesleyan senior shortstop Jen Kuhn was voted CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year and Titans’ sophomore Mallory Holland collected the CCIW Pitcher of the Year award.

Wednesday’s selection also brought the third consecutive CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year award for Illinois Wesleyan’s staff, headed by ninth-year head coach Tiffany Prager. Augustana’s Lexi Duke was the recipient of the CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year award.

Rettler is the third player in conference history to earn Student-Athlete of the Year honors in consecutive seasons after Wheaton Katie Thornton (2015-16) and Illinois Wesleyan’s Colleen Palcynski (2021-22). She put up a .661 average across 56 at-bats in 14 CCIW starts in 2025. She reached base at a .683 clip, slugged .750 and led the league with 22 stolen bases and 20 runs scored. Rettler logged a 32-game hit streak that ended in April as the sixth-longest in Division III history. The Appleton, Wis. native also had hits in 12 consecutive at-bats from April 5 through April 8, the fifth-longest streak all-time in Division III.

Kuhn was recognized as an All-CCIW selection for the fourth time on Wednesday and earned the league’s Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year. Kuhn was perfect in 56 defensive chances from the shortstop position – third-most among CCIW second basemen, shortstops and third basemen. She was also a force at the plate, hitting .407/.444/.695 with four home runs, 21 runs batted in and 19 runs scored. She is the second consecutive Titan to be named CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year after Bailey Turner last spring.

Holland pitched 39.1 innings for IWU this season, posting a 1.07 earned-run average and a perfect 6-0 record. She limited opposing hitters to a league-low .141 batting average, yielding only 19 hits and walking 11 for a 0.77 WHIP. She had a complete-game shutout at North Central on April 23 and also made four relief appearances, giving the Titans two saves.

Duke, a freshman from Port Byron, Ill, emerged as one of Augie’s top offensive threats, hitting .431 with five doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI. She struck out only twice in 53 CCIW plate appearances and was one of two freshmen to land on the All-CCIW First Team on Wednesday.

Prager and her IWU staff are the CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year for the third consecutive season and the fourth time overall. The Titans were undefeated CCIW champions in 2025, the league’s first perfect regular-season winner since IWU in 2009. IWU was the league leader in batting average (.371), runs per game (7.75), on-base percentage (.441) and slugging percentage (.522). IWU was also strong defensively and in the circle, earning a league-best fielding percentage of .981 and a league-low ERA of 1.68.
