Millikin, Illinois Wesleyan to Open Season in AVCA Top 25

NAPERVILLE — One season removed from advancing to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, both Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan appeared in the preseason AVCA/TARAFLEX Division III poll on Monday. The Big Blue were ranked 12th, while Illinois Wesleyan checked in at #19.

Millikin received 1,098 points in the poll. MU won 31 matches a year ago, including a 6-2 mark in the CCIW. The Big Blue was picked second in a preseason CCIW coaches’ poll on Tuesday.

Illinois Wesleyan – the preseason CCIW favorite – had 628 points in Monday’s national rankings. IWU swept last season’s CCIW regular-season and tournament championships, part of a 24-win campaign.

Juniata snagged 79 of 86 first-place votes to claim the #1 spot in the preseason AVCA poll. Wisconsin-Whitewater was second, followed by Hope, Johns Hopkins and Emory.
