NAPERVILLE --- North Central senior Dasia Yearby was named the CCIW Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday following her performances during the Cardinals’ championship run at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa last weekend.
Competing at 207 pounds, Yearby recorded two victories during the event for the third-ranked Cardinals. Her most notable result came in the semifinal dual against top-ranked Iowa. Entering the final bout with North Central trailing 21-18, Yearby secured a fall at the 1:38 mark of the first period to lift the Cardinals to a 23-21 team victory.
The win marked the first dual loss in program history for Iowa and ended the Hawkeyes’ 42-match winning streak.
Yearby also contributed in the quarterfinals with a 10-0 technical fall against Quincy, helping NCC to a 42-2 team win. The Cardinals finished the weekend with a 4-0 record and defeated McKendree University in the finals to claim the first national dual championship in program history.
