NAPERVILLE — A perfect week on the mat has earned North Central freshman Elizabeth Rosenstiel recognition as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week.
Competing at 160 pounds, Rosenstiel finished the week 5-0 and did not surrender a point in any of her five matches, recording four early victories by fall or technical fall. The Tuscaloosa, Ala. native helped lead the No. 3-ranked Cardinals through a pair of dual wins before claiming an individual title at the Elmhurst Invitational.
Rosenstiel opened the week on Thursday as North Central swept Elmhurst and NAIA No. 1 Life. In the CCIW dual against Elmhurst, she recorded a 10-0 technical fall over Lily Avalos as part of the Cardinals’ 45-2 team victory.
She continued her undefeated run on Sunday at the Elmhurst Invitational, advancing to the championship bout with three consecutive pins. Rosenstiel opened the tournament with a fall in 2:41 against Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Taylor Schulz, followed by a fall in 4:25 over Lakeland’s Jalah Wilson, before pinning Elmhurst’s Lily Avalos in 1:48 in the semifinals.
In the finals, Rosenstiel closed the event with an 8-0 decision over Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Amerrah Kayon to secure the 160-pound title. Her efforts helped guide North Central to a first-place team finish with 162 points.
