KENOSHA, Wis. — Carthage senior Ryan Bartz was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men's Player of the Week following a productive week that helped the Firebirds remain unbeaten early in the season.

Bartz averaged 4.5 kills per set while hitting .692 across four sets in two straight-set victories. He also posted 1.25 digs per set and 5.55 points per set as Carthage opened the week with a 3-0 win over MSOE on Jan. 20 before closing with a 3-0 road victory at Concordia (Wis.) on Jan. 22.

In the sweep of MSOE, Bartz finished with 17 kills on 25 attempts without an error, hitting .680. He added five digs, two blocks and two aces in the win. For the week, his efficiency and consistency at the net anchored a balanced Firebird attack.

With the pair of wins, Carthage improved to 4-0 on the young season as Bartz was also named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Volleyball Hitter of the Week on Monday.
