IWU Duo Collects Weekly CCIW Awards; Alvers Anchors Augie Defense

NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Men’s Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Monday, with Illinois Wesleyan freshman Aydin Provost and sophomore Ethan Kuziela earning Hitter and Setter of the Week, respectively, and Augustana freshman Colin Alvers selected as the league’s Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. 
 
The Titans went 3-0 on the week, tying a program record for single-season victories (12) while also producing the best start in program history, while the Vikings posted two non-conference wins.
 
Hitter: Aydin Provost, Illinois Wesleyan
Provost, a freshman opposite from Chicago, helped lead Illinois Wesleyan to three victories while averaging 4.15 kills and 4.62 points per set. Provost totaled 54 kills over 13 sets while hitting .279, adding nine digs, seven blocks and two aces. 
 
He set new IWU single-match records with 25 kills and 27.5 points in a four-set win over Concordia Wisconsin on Thursday. Provost followed with 17 kills and three blocks in a five-set win over Wisconsin Lutheran, then posted 12 kills in a four-set victory against Westminster on Saturday
 
Setter: Ethan Kuziela, Illinois Wesleyan
Kuziela directed an IWU attack that hit .257 as a team and twice reset the program’s single-match team kills record (68 and 76) during the 3-0 week. Kuziela averaged 7.38 assists per set while also contributing 3.23 kills and 2.69 digs per set across three matches. 
 
The sophomore from Chicago opened the week with consecutive triple-doubles, starting with 18 kills, 34 assists and 14 digs against Concordia Wisconsin, with the 34 assists tying the Titans’ program record for a four-set match. Kuziela followed with 12 kills, 33 assists and 13 digs against Wisconsin Lutheran and finished the week with 12 kills, 29 assists and eight digs versus Westminster.
 
Defensive: Colin Alvers, Augustana
Alvers, a freshman, anchored Augustana’s back row during a 2-0 week by posting 38 digs across nine sets, an average of 4.22 per set. He recorded identical 19-dig performances in each match, opening with 19 digs and two assists in a five-set win over Benedictine last Tuesday before matching the output with 19 digs and two assists in a four-set victory against Marian on Thursday.
 
The Mokena, Ill. native added four assists on the week as the Vikings improved to 4-2 overall this season.
