Carthage, Loras Earn Top-10 Spots in New AVCA Men’s Volleyball Poll

NAPERVILLE — The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released its latest Division III Men’s Volleyball Poll on Tuesday with two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) programs ranked in the top 10 and another receiving votes.
 
Carthage moved up two spots to No. 3 in the national poll following a 2-0 week. The Firebirds opened conference play with a four-set win over Illinois Wesleyan and followed with a 3-1 victory over then-No. 4 Cal Lutheran. Carthage enters the week with a 10-2 overall record and ranks second nationally in hitting percentage (.325) and seventh in kills per set (12.90).
 
Loras moved up one position to No. 10 after opening CCIW play with a straight-sets win over North Park. The Duhawks are 12-1 overall and posted a .452 team hitting percentage in the conference-opening sweep.
 
Illinois Wesleyan is listed among teams receiving votes with six points. The Titans won the second set, 25-21, in their four-set match at Carthage before the Firebirds secured the win.
 
Springfield remained No. 1 in the poll and received all 30 first-place votes. Juniata is ranked No. 2, followed by Carthage at No. 3, Stevens at No. 4 and Cal Lutheran at No. 5.
