NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday, recognizing Illinois Wesleyan’s Timothy McHugh and Carroll’s Jake Wright for their performances during the opening week of March.
Offensive: Timothy McHugh, Illinois Wesleyan
McHugh helped lead Illinois Wesleyan to a 2-0 week with eight total points on three goals and five assists. The junior attack from Orland Park, Ill. opened the week with one goal and four assists in a 15-3 victory over Benedictine last Thursday. He also recorded three caused turnovers and five ground balls in the win.
McHugh followed with two goals and one assist in a 14-7 victory over Lake Forest last Saturday. He finished the week with 10 ground balls as the Titans improved to 2-0 during the stretch.
Defensive: Jake Wright, Carroll
Wright earned the conference’s defensive honor after helping Carroll to a 2-0 week at the faceoff position. Wright won 26 of 31 faceoffs across the two contests and totaled 19 ground balls.
In Carroll’s 10-9 win over Edgewood on Saturday, the Wauconda, Ill. native went 20-for-22 on faceoffs and collected 17 ground balls. He also posted a 6-for-9 mark with two ground balls in a 12-3 victory over Beloit earlier in the week.
