NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan senior Ben Vigneri has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Vigneri helped IWU to wins over Ripon and Lawrence while posting a 4-0 combined record at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
In doubles competition, Vigneri teamed with Ian Turnbull for two 6-0 victories at the top flight. The pair opened the weekend with a win over Ripon’s Caleb Sippel and Kyle Flook on Saturday, then followed with a 6-0 decision against Lawrence’s Ben Hoppe and Gabriel Garcia on Sunday.
Vigneri also earned two straight-set victories at No. 1 singles. He defeated Ripon’s Sippel 7-6(6), 6-1 in a 7-0 team win before adding a 6-2, 6-1 result against Lawrence’s Hoppe in the Titans’ 5-2 victory.
