NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan senior Ian Turnbull was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Turnbull helped IWU to a pair of 6-1 dual-match wins in Galesburg, Ill. last Saturday, as the Titans defeated Monmouth and Principia. He competed at No. 1 doubles in both matches and No. 1 singles against Principia.
Against Monmouth, Turnbull teamed with senior Ben Vigneri for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles. In the Principia match, Turnbull and Vigneri recorded a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, and Turnbull added a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jesus Soto at No. 1 singles.
The results contributed to Illinois Wesleyan’s 5-0 start to the season, the program’s best start since 2010-11. IWU returns to action Saturday when the Titans host a triangular with Olivet Nazarene and Greenville.
