Two Wins, Two CCIW Honors for Augustana Women’s Lacrosse

NAPERVILLE — A two-win week for Augustana resulted in a sweep of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the Week honors, as Becca Lacina was named Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week and Kendall Phelan earned Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week recognition.
 
Augustana improved to 6-2 overall with victories over Beloit and Marian, outscoring the two opponents by a combined 32-7. Lacina contributed heavily to the Vikings’ offensive output, while Phelan helped lead the defensive effort and added transition scoring.
 
Offensive: Becca Lacina, Augustana
With 17 points over the two contests, Lacina collected Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors. The sophomore attacker totaled seven goals and 10 assists during the week, including five assists in each of Augustana’s two victories.
 
A native of Orland Park, Ill., Lacina opened the week with a hat trick and five assists in the Vikings’ road win over Beloit. She followed with four goals and five assists in an 18-3 victory over Marian. Her pair of five-assist performances matched the second-highest single-match assist total by a CCIW player this season.
 
Defensive: Kendall Phelan, Augustana
Phelan earned Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week honors after helping anchor an Augustana unit that limited Beloit to four goals and held Marian scoreless in the opening half. Across the two games, she totaled nine ground balls and six caused turnovers.
 
The junior defender from Lindenhurst, Ill. also reached a career milestone during the Marian contest, recording her 100th career ground ball. In addition to her defensive work, Phelan scored one goal in each game.
