NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon. North Central sophomore Payton Diaz was selected as Hitter of the Week, while Carroll senior Erik Jaschinski earned Pitcher of the Week honors following a hitless start in a conference win.
Hitter: Payton Diaz, North Central
Diaz, a first baseman from Buffalo Grove, Ill., batted .571 (4-for-7) across two games, highlighted by a 4-for-4 performance against Franklin on Saturday that included two home runs, a double and three RBI. Diaz, who logged a 1.571 slugging percentage, also error-free defensively with 18 total chances.
Pitcher: Erik Jaschinski, Carroll
Jaschinski earned top pitcher honors after leading Carroll to a 3-0 shutout win over Eureka on Saturday. The senior from Verona, Wis. worked six hitless innings in the doubleheader opener with four strikeouts. His effort set the tone for a combined one-hitter as the Pioneers completed a doubleheader sweep and improved to 4-1 on the season.
