NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) named North Park senior shortstop Kayla Lorenz and Carroll sophomore right-handed pitcher Makayla Wall as its Softball Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Lorenz helped set the tone for the Vikings’ season-opening sweep at the plate, while Wall provided extended scoreless work across six appearances during the Pioneers’ week.
Hitter: Kayla Lorenz, North Park
Lorenz, a senior from Vernon Hills, Ill., earned Hitter of the Week honors following North Park’s doubleheader sweep of Hope on Friday. She finished the day 4-for-7 with three triples and six RBIs.
In the opener, Lorenz went 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs, including a bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning. She followed with another triple and three RBIs in game two, scoring three runs as the Vikings completed a comeback victory. Her performance marked only the third time in program history that a North Park student-athlete recorded a multi-triple game.
Pitcher: Makayla Wall, Carroll
Wall was selected as Pitcher of the Week after logging 19.1 innings across six outings. The Elkhorn, Wis. native totaled 19 strikeouts and posted a 2.17 ERA, including a stretch of 9.1 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts that resulted in both a win and a save.
Wall recorded a save with 2.2 scoreless innings in relief against MSOE last Thursday and earned a win with 2.1 scoreless innings versus Edgewood Friday. She closed the week by striking out six in 4.1 innings of relief in the second game of the Edgewood doubleheader.
