NAPERVILLE — North Park claimed both College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week honors following the opening weekend of conference play. The Vikings improved to 3-0 in league action, with sophomore Taylor Joseph earning Hitter of the Week recognition and senior Sam Jackson being named Pitcher of the Week.
Hitter: Taylor Joseph, North Park
Joseph, a sophomore shortstop from Johnson Creek, Wis., was selected as Hitter of the Week after recording a cycle in North Park’s 14-11 win over Carthage on Saturday. He finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored, collecting a single in the first inning, a triple in the second, a two-run home run in the fourth and a double in the seventh.
Joseph also contributed additional multi-hit performances during the week, recording two hits and two RBI against North Central and again in the series opener against Carthage.
Pitcher: Sam Jackson, North Park
Jackson received Pitcher of the Week honors after his outing in North Park’s 3-1 win over Carthage on Friday. The Nashville Tenn. native worked 8.1 innings and allowed two hits and one earned run while matching a career high with 11 strikeouts. Jackson retired the side in order in five innings and held Carthage scoreless until the ninth.
