NAPERVILLE — Wheaton collected both College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Student-Athlete of the Week honors after posting a 4-0 record last week. The Thunder earned doubleheader sweeps over Eureka and Blackburn, with Abby Whitehead being named Hitter of the Week and Shylah Dozeman receiving Pitcher of the Week recognition.
 
Hitter: Abby Whitehead, Wheaton
A junior utility player, Whitehead earned Hitter of the Week honors after batting .583 (7-for-12) with a 1.167 slugging percentage across four games. She also drew four walks, posted a .688 on-base percentage and scored seven runs during the week.
 
The Flower Mound, Texas, native delivered in Saturday’s home-opening doubleheader sweep of Blackburn. In the opener, Whitehead went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in the sixth inning that moved Wheaton in front, 8-7, in an eventual 10-8 win. She followed with a 2-for-4 effort in the second game and hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Thunder to a 12-10 victory.
 
Pitcher: Shylah Dozeman, Wheaton
Dozeman received Pitcher of the Week recognition after compiling a 2-0 record with a 2.10 ERA over 13.1 innings. The junior from Holland, Mich., struck out 15 batters, did not issue a walk and held opposing hitters to a .208 batting average.
 
She began the week with a complete-game shutout against Eureka on Friday, allowing three hits and striking out nine over 7.0 innings. Dozeman also earned the win in relief during Wheaton’s 12-10 comeback victory over Blackburn on Saturday, covering 3.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Entering with the Thunder trailing 9-5 in the fifth inning, she helped limit Blackburn the rest of the way as Wheaton completed the rally.
