NAPERVILLE — North Central senior Abigail Penados was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Penados earned the honor after posting a 2-0 record in North Central’s non-conference dual against No. 37 Grinnell on Sunday, recording victories in both singles and doubles competition.
At No. 1 doubles, Penados teamed with Kensington Payne for a 6-3 win over Grinnell’s Isa Voinescu and Paige Sargent. She later added a three-set win at No. 1 singles against Sargent, rebounding from a 3-6 opening-set loss to claim the final two sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Her singles result accounted for one of North Central’s two points in the dual.
