NAPERVILLE — Elmhurst junior Hunter Hernandez and Carthage senior Josh Flores were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Hernandez received the offensive honor after totaling 12 points across two games, while Flores was recognized for his defensive performance in Carthage’s conference win over Illinois Wesleyan.
 
Offensive: Hunter Hernandez, Elmhurst
Hernandez helped lead the Bluejays offensively with 10 goals and two assists over a two-game stretch. The junior attackman from Saratoga Springs, Utah opened the week with three goals and two caused turnovers against Colorado College last Thursday before posting seven goals and two assists in a 22-11 conference win over North Central on Saturday. He also finished the week with 23 total shots, three ground balls and a hat trick in the non-conference matchup.
 
Defensive: Josh Flores, Carthage
Flores, a defenseman from Mahtomedi, Minn., played a central role in Carthage’s 12-9 win over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, a result that marked the program’s first victory over the Titans since 2017. The senior recorded seven caused turnovers and eight ground balls while helping the Firebirds limit Illinois Wesleyan to nine goals.
