North Central Freshmen Sweep Weekly CCIW Men’s Soccer Accolades

| By: Bryan Moore, Associate Executive Director
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – After a week in which the North Central men’s soccer team clinched its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) championship in nearly three decades, the Cardinals swept the league’s Student-Athlete of the Week awards. Freshman Matteo Innocenti is the Offensive recipient and freshman Edoardo Bonifacio earned the Defensive honor.

Innocenti, a forward/midfielder from Rome, Italy, erupted for three goals in the Cardinals’ 4-0 win last Wednesday at Millikin. All five of his shot attempts were on frame. He later added an assist in the 22nd minute of Saturday’s 3-2 win over Illinois Wesleyan that clinched NCC’s first CCIW crown since 1994.

Bonifacio helped NCC limit Millikin to just six shot attempts, three of which were on frame, in the Cardinals’ 4-0 win on Wednesday. He also connected on the match-winning goal in the 68th minute of Saturday’s triumph over Illinois Wesleyan.
