NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) honored three men’s soccer student-athletes Tuesday in the final round of Student-Athlete of the Week awards of the 2023 season.
Co-Offense: Nacho Diaz, Millikin
Diaz – who was voted the league’s Defensive Student-Athlete of the Year late last week – delivered two goals to help Millikin topple Wheaton last Wednesday, 3-1. His 29th-minute tally tied the match at 1-1, setting the stage for the match winner just six minutes into the second half. The performance marked the Madrid, Spain native’s second multi-goal match of his career, both coming in a span of five days.
Co-Offense: Tommaso Polidori, North Central
Another defensive standout making contributions at the offensive end was Polidori, who struck twice in the match’s first 12 minutes to set the tone for NCC’s 5-0 win at Augustana. The CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year hit the match-winning goal at 7:13, putting the wheels in motion on the decision that allowed the Cardinals to win their second consecutive CCIW regular-season title.
Defense: Peter Kimba, North Central
Kimba, a junior defender from Rock Island, Ill., played 70 minutes on the NCC back line that held Augustana without a shot attempt in last Wednesday’s win. Kimba also scored a pair of insurance goals in the victory, the first coming at 23:22 and the second following at 70:46.
