NAPERVILLE – For the first time in his collegiate career, North Central sophomore Christian Guzman is the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week in men’s wrestling, the league announced Tuesday.
Guzman was a perfect 3-0 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals last weekend in Cedar Falls, Iowa, including a 4-2 win over 2022 national champion Jacob Decatur of Baldwin Wallace in the Cardinals’ quarterfinal dual.
The 125-pounder from Miami, Fla. also scored a 26-10 technical fall victory over Augsburg’s Austin Laudenbach in the semifinal and an 18-1 tech fall versus Remington Bontreger of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the third-place dual.
Guzman’s performance helped the Cardinals to a fourth-place team finish at the event.
