NAPERVILLE – Marian junior Brenna Schiekiera has been named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Bowling Student-Athlete of the Year, headlining a group of 10 student-athletes to earn a spot on the All-CCIW Teams released by the league office on Thursday morning.
Fifth-year Marian head coach Dan Mueller was voted CCIW Coach of the Year for the first time after guiding the Sabres to their fourth straight league title. Marian was a perfect 13-0 in head-to-head CCIW competition during the regular season, becoming the first team to go unbeaten in the league’s regular-season events and the CCIW’s first outright champion.
Schiekiera – who was a two-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week this season and bowled a 300 game at the CCIW regular-season event on Nov. 19 – ranked second in the league in individual scoring average. She competed in 796 frames in 2023-24 with an average of 18.557 per frame.
In the traditional format, the junior from Waukesha, Wis. led all CCIW bowlers in average per frame (18.98), fill percentage (80.4%) and strike percentage (44.7%). She is on the All-CCIW First Team for the first time after Second Team selections the previous two seasons.
Elmhurst's Mary Graves, one of two freshmen to be named to the All-CCIW Second Team, was selected CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year. The Orland Park, Ill. native had a frame average of 17.708 in 727 frames, sixth-highest in the league.
Augustana’s Maddie Lathrop is the only student-athlete to repeat on the All-CCIW First Team in 2024 and becomes just the fourth bowler in league history to earn multiple First Team selections. Elmhurst’s Lorrie Decker was selected for the First Team Thursday after being on the Second Team in 2023. Jenna Betts of Marian, named to the Second Team on Thursday, is the first four-time All-CCIW honoree in conference history.
Aurora’s Annemarie Ruzevich and Marian’s Jocelynn Eggert were both members of the First Team to be recognized for the first time.
