NAPERVILLE – North Central’s Payton Geigner was named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week in men’s wrestling on Tuesday after putting up a 5-0 mark for the Cardinals at the NWCA National Duals last Friday and Saturday.
Geigner’s effort helped the Cardinals to a seventh-place finish at the two-day event. Geigner joins teammate Christian Guzman as Cardinals to be named CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week this season.
The senior from Manhattan, Ill. defeated Hayden McLellan of Alvernia, 10-1, Zachary Huckabee of Wabash, 8-0, and James Romaine of TCNJ, 9-0, on Friday. He then followed on Saturday with a major decision (10-1) over Castleton’s Blake Chapman and pinned Matthew Hamad of Baldwin Wallce in 3:56.
