NAPERVILLE — Millikin freshman Mateo Casillas has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week following another strong showing that kept his freshman season unblemished.
Competing at 197 pounds, the Mahomet, Ill. native went 2–0 in dual action at Wheaton last Saturday to improve to 13–0 overall. Casillas played a key role in helping the Big Blue maintain their unbeaten start, as Millikin moved to 9–0 overall and 4–0 in CCIW competition.
Casillas opened the day with a 6–4 decision over MSOE’s Gavin Graham, an NCAA qualifier a season ago, before closing with a 23–8 technical fall against Wheaton’s Sean King. Millikin secured team victories over MSOE (32–8) and Wheaton (42–3).
The honor marks Casillas’ second CCIW weekly award of the season, having previously earned recognition on Nov. 11.
