NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced Monday that Wheaton junior guard Soren Richardson has been named the Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. The announcement marked his second weekly recognition from the league this season.
Richardson, a Northfield, Minn. native, helped lead the Thunder to a pair of one-point conference victories last week, averaging 23.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. He finished the week a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line.
Wheaton opened the week with an 85-84 home victory over Carroll on Wednesday. Richardson scored a game-high 25 points. He added five rebounds, two assists and matched a career high with five steals while converting all eight of his free-throw attempts.
On Saturday, Richardson was key in a 72-71 road win at North Central. After Wheaton erased a 13-point second-half deficit, Richardson connected on a buzzer-beating three-pointer to seal the victory. He finished with 22 points and three assists
For the week, Richardson led Wheaton in total points (47), total field goals made (16) and steals (6).
