NAPERVILLE --- The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men’s swimming & diving schedule resumed following the holiday break with teams returning to competition across a full slate of dual and triangular meets.
Early January action featured decisive team results, steady depth across lineups and continued separation on the conference leaderboard as programs work deeper into the heart of the season.
Augustana Opens January with Triangular Sweep
Augustana wasted little time reestablishing control following the break, rolling to a pair of lopsided victories at its home triangular last Saturday. The Vikings posted a 221-14 win against Monmouth before closing the meet with a 207-64 decision over Coe, piling up points through depth in nearly every event.
Junior Tyler Leslie anchored the effort and later earned CCIW Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week recognition. Leslie picked up wins in the 100-yard backstroke (52.13) and 100-yard butterfly (50.89), setting personal bests in both races, and was part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay alongside Luke Rettig, Bjorn Sievert and Oskar Bannister.
Augustana also found separation in the longer events, with Matteo Graham claiming the 1650-yard freestyle (17:45.88) and Matthew Meyer capturing the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.88.
Carthage Controls All Phases in Opening Dual
Carthage began the 2026 portion of its schedule last Saturday by asserting control early and often in a 222-76 dual meet win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Firebirds built their margin through consistent finishes in both the swimming and diving events.
Sophomore Tyson Politsch produced a three-win day, sweeping the 100-yard breaststroke (58.63), 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.26) and 100-yard butterfly (53.00).
In the diving well, Taydin Murphy captured victories on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, while Devon Kuhn posted a season-best 173.35 on the 1-meter board to earn CCIW Men’s Diving Student-Athlete of the Week honors. Freshman Sean Noller led the distance group with wins in the 1000-yard (10:44.17) and 500-yard (5:12.71) freestyle, and Will Murray secured sprint victories in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
Close Meets Provide Tests for Titans and Pioneers
Illinois Wesleyan returned to competition with several strong individual results despite a 117-73 setback to Rose-Hulman. Sophomore Tate Thomas swept the freestyle events, winning the 100-yard (50.87) and 200-yard (1:49.14), while senior Jay Jenkins added victories in the 100-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle.
Carroll was edged 95-73 in a road dual at Loras, with the Pioneers earning points across both swimming and diving. Ben Miles secured Carroll’s win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.12), and freshman Dawson Schultz topped the field on the 1-meter board with a score of 164.65.
North Central also competed last Saturday, as Mihir Chandra placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.75) during a road dual at Illinois Tech.
Wheaton Continues to Anchor the Conference Leaderboard
The latest CCIW Top Times report shows Wheaton maintaining its hold on the majority of the conference’s top marks. Benjamin Coley leads the league in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while Isaac Eilmes remains the conference standard in the 1000-yard and 1650-yard freestyle events, along with the 400-yard individual medley.
Additional Wheaton leaders include Jac Cummings in the 100-yard (50.93) and 200-yard (1:52.36) backstroke and Jed Ritchie in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:39.56) and 200-yard butterfly (1:54.13).
Outside the Thunder lineup, Augustana’s Bjorn Sievert holds the top time in the 50-yard freestyle (20.94), teammate Alejandro Jacob leads the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.78) and Carthage’s AJ Landorf sits atop the 200-yard individual medley standings (1:56.30).
Mid-January Schedule Continues to Build
With momentum carrying forward, CCIW teams remain active through the middle of January. Augustana heads to the Grinnell Invitational on Friday and Saturday, while Illinois Wesleyan hosts a triangular with Millikin and Illinois College on Friday.
The Saturday slate includes Carthage hosting Illinois Tech, North Central traveling to Monmouth and Carroll visiting Lawrence in a dual meet.
