NAPERVILLE — North Central junior Joey Sikorsky has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week following a championship performance at the Al Hanke Invitational last Saturday.
Competing at 125 pounds, Sikorsky was the lone individual champion for the Cardinals and helped lead North Central to a seventh-place team finish in a 16-team field. The Geneva, Ill. native earned bonus points in all four of his matches during the tournament, advancing to the title with a technical fall, two major decisions and a fall.
Sikorsky opened the event with a 17-2 technical fall over Elmhurst’s Juan Villa, followed by a 20-7 major decision against Trine’s Kaden Golder in the quarterfinals. He secured a berth in the championship bout with a fall over Harper’s Esteban Delgado at 4:43 of the semifinal before closing the tournament with an 11-3 major decision over Carthage’s Chris Kish in the finals.
Sikorsky totaled 25.5 team points at the invitational and was one of eight Cardinals to place among the top four in their respective weight classes.
