The CCIW Women’s Volleyball Notebook: Titans, Firebirds Stay Perfect in League Action

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women’s volleyball continues into the weekend with a pair of conference matches Friday night, following a busy midweek slate that saw Carthage College and Carroll University earn league victories and No. 4 nationally ranked Illinois Wesleyan University remain unbeaten in CCIW play.

Illinois Wesleyan will host Millikin University at 7 p.m. Friday inside the Shirk Center, while Elmhurst University travels to North Park University for another 7 p.m. conference matchup in Chicago. The Titans enter Friday riding a six-match winning streak after defeating Wheaton College in four sets Wednesday night.Carroll also picked up its first CCIW victory of the season Wednesday, defeating North Central College in four sets in Waukesha. 

Several CCIW programs will step outside conference play Saturday. Carthage hosts nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 1 p.m., Carroll travels to Loras College for a noon matchup, and Wheaton College will face UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point in Stevens Point, Wis. North Park will also host Dominican University at 7 p.m.

Wheaton’s Sydney Overweg leads the CCIW with a .337 hitting percentage, just ahead of Elmhurst’s Katie Hurta at .331. Carthage’s Kristina Manojlovic leads the conference with 274 kills and 3.97 kills per set, while Hurta ranks second at 3.62 per set. North Central’s Sarah Harvey leads all setters with 386 assists and 9.41 assists per set.

At the net, Millikin’s Nikkel Johnson leads the league with 71 total blocks and 1.04 blocks per set, followed closely by Carthage’s Hailey Wierzgac with 69 blocks and 1.01 per set. Illinois Wesleyan’s Alysa Lawton continues to pace the conference defensively with 324 digs and 5.40 digs per set. Manojlovic also leads the CCIW in scoring with 325 points and 4.71 points per set, while Illinois Wesleyan’s Alex Bardouniotis ranks second at 4.14 points per set. As a team, Illinois Wesleyan leads the conference with a .221 hitting percentage.
