NAPERVILLE — Augustana sophomore Maryam Ndiaye was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
A native of Moline, Ill., Ndiaye went 5-0 in the 180-pound weight class at the D3 National Invitational in Rock Island, earning the individual title. She opened the tournament with a 10-0 technical fall over Luther’s Grace Rinehart and followed with another 10-0 technical fall over Mallory Matuga of Elmhurst in round two.
Ndiaye then posted a 6-0 decision over Simpson’s Jenna Joseph in the quarterfinals before defeating No. 9-ranked Kara Kuge of Wisconsin-Stevens Point by a 6-2 decision in the semifinals. In the title match, she closed the event with a 13-6 decision over No. 6-ranked Mia Gaetjens of Adrian.
Ndiaye’s championship performance helped Augustana place sixth in a 50-team field at the event.
