National Champion Bella Mir Leads CCIW Effort at NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championships

CORALVILLE, Iowa — College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) programs concluded competition at the inaugural NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championships this weekend with strong results across multiple programs, including one national championship, three national runner-up finishes and numerous All-American honors.
 
North Central led the conference in the team standings, placing third overall with 123.5 points. Bella Mir captured the 145-pound national title for the Cardinals, recording the first pin in an NCAA women’s wrestling championship final. North Central also received runner-up finishes from Riley Rayome at 117 pounds and Claire DiCugno at 138 pounds. Additional All-American performances for the Cardinals came from Sara Sterner, who placed third at 124 pounds, Shenita Lawson, who placed third at 180 pounds, Madison Avila, who finished fourth at 103 pounds, and Caroline Ward, who placed sixth at 207 pounds.
 
Aurora finished 13th in the 54-team field with 33.5 points and ranked third among NCAA Division III institutions in the event. Alexis Janiak earned All-American honors with a second-place finish at 131 pounds, while Genesis Ramirez placed third at 103 pounds to also secure All-American recognition.
 
Augustana recorded its first All-American in program history as Aine Moffit placed seventh at 138 pounds. Moffit secured her podium finish with an 8-1 decision in her final match of the tournament.
 
Illinois Wesleyan and Carthage also reached program milestones during the championship. Alivia Davey earned the first national championship match victory in Illinois Wesleyan program history with a 6-0 decision in the 207-pound bracket and finished among the top 16 nationally. Jasmin Ocampo became the first student-athlete from the Carthage women’s wrestling program to compete at the NCAA Championships, representing the Firebirds at 207 pounds.
 
The weekend marked the conclusion of the 2025-26 season and the first NCAA championship event for women’s wrestling as the association’s 91st sponsored sport.
