NAPERVILLE — Elmhurst’s Eli Spence and Augustana’s Jamar Taylor were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Spence received the offensive award after a nine-point outing in an overtime road win, while Taylor earned defensive recognition following a performance that included contributions in both the defensive and transition game.
Offensive: Eli Spence, Elmhurst
Spence was chosen as the conference’s offensive honoree after helping Elmhurst to a 15-14 overtime victory at Kenyon last Saturday. The senior attack from Snoqualmie, Wash. finished with seven goals and two assists. His final two goals came in the closing stages of the game, as he scored the equalizer with 15 seconds remaining in regulation before adding the game-winner with 55 seconds left in overtime.
Defensive: Jamar Taylor, Augustana
On the defensive side, Taylor was recognized for his play in Augustana’s Saturday matchup against Pitt-Bradford. A freshman defender from Inglewood, Calif., he totaled 10 ground balls and five caused turnovers to lead the Vikings in both categories. Taylor also contributed offensively with two goals and one assist as Augustana maintained a 44-25 advantage in total shots.
