NAPERVILLE — North Central junior David Vilarroig Martinez was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Cardinals to a pair of dual-match victories over the weekend.
 
A native of Castellon, Spain, Vilarroig Martinez went 4-0 across singles and doubles competition, competing at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. In both matches, he secured the point that clinched the team victory for North Central.
 
On Friday against Judson, Vilarroig Martinez teamed with Matt Crossland for a 7-6 (6) win at No. 3 doubles. He later added a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 victory at No. 6 singles as North Central earned a 5-2 team win.
 
He followed with another 2-0 showing on Saturday in the Cardinals’ conference opener against Carthage. Vilarroig Martinez and Crossland posted a 6-4 doubles victory before he claimed a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3 decision in singles to clinch North Central’s 5-2 CCIW victory.
 
North Central is now 7-6 overall and 1-0 in CCIW play.
