CCIW Names Becker, Diaz Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week

NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its latest Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon. This week’s honorees were Carroll senior outfielder Evan Becker and North Central sophomore pitcher Payton Diaz.
 
Hitter: Evan Becker, Carroll
Becker earned Hitter of the Week honors after a strong week at the plate and on the bases for Carroll. A senior outfielder from Colgate, Wis., Becker batted .538 (7-for-13) with one double, one home run and three RBI. He also scored five runs and finished 7-for-7 on stolen-base attempts. His week included a solo home run against North Park as Carroll secured a series victory.
 
Pitcher: Payton Diaz, North Central
Diaz was selected as Pitcher of the Week after helping the Cardinals to a 4-0 record in CCIW play. The Buffalo Grove, Ill. native threw an eight-inning complete-game shutout in an 11-0 victory over Carroll, marking North Central’s first complete-game shutout since 2022. He struck out eight batters, allowed six hits and did not issue a walk or hit a batter. Diaz also contributed offensively during the week, batting .462 with five runs scored, five RBI and one double.
