NAPERVILLE — High-scoring games and several individual milestones marked a busy week of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) baseball action as teams continued to compete for position in the standings.
The week also included national recognition for multiple performances, along with a coaching milestone and additions to national statistical rankings.
Levengood Leads the National Honor Roll
Wheaton junior David Levengood was named CCIW Pitcher of the Week and earned a place on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after his outing against North Central last Friday. Levengood carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and worked 7.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits while tying a career high with eight strikeouts. His performance came against an offense that had averaged nearly 10 runs per game over its previous nine contests.
Wheaton also continues to appear in several national statistical categories, as Alex Bagley ranks 49th in walks allowed per nine innings (1.59) and JD Van Hook is tied for 14th nationally with five saves.
Hendren Hammers the Competition
Augustana outfielder Riley Hendren was selected as the CCIW Hitter of the Week after helping the Vikings to a 4-0 week while batting 11-for-17 (.647). In Augustana’s 23-0 win over Elmhurst last Saturday, Hendren finished 6-for-6 with two home runs and six RBIs.
The Vikings remain among the national leaders in several offensive categories, ranking second in doubles per game (2.88), third in total doubles (72), 18th in slugging percentage (.522) and 21st in scoring (10.0 runs per game). Individually, Hendren is tied for 28th nationally with 12 doubles, while Kaileb Hackman ranks 82nd in batting average at .426.
Wyatt Cycles Through the Benedictine Defense
North Central outfielder Parker Wyatt recorded the cycle in a 19-10 win over Benedictine on Thursday, finishing with four hits and six RBIs. The performance marked the program’s first cycle since 2024.
Earlier in the week, the Cardinals erased an 8-0 deficit to defeat Carroll 19-16. North Central also continues to rank among the national leaders in doubles per game (12th, 2.58) and slugging percentage (30th, .501). Wyatt ranks third in Division III with 15 doubles, while his 36 RBIs place him 39th nationally.
Johnson Reaches Historic Milestone
North Park head coach Luke Johnson recorded his 400th career victory on Monday in a 4-2 win over Wheaton. Taylor Joseph provided a two-run home run in the milestone victory, his fourth home run in a five-game stretch. Joseph currently leads the conference and ranks 31st nationally in slugging percentage (.784), while John Greenwood is 28th in the country in batting average at .453.
Joseph Perona also ranks 11th nationally in both stolen bases (23) and runs per game (1.70), and Ethan Condit is ranked sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (13.00) and ninth in walks allowed per nine innings (0.71).
Big Blue Remain a National Powerhouse
Millikin continued to hold a national ranking this week at No. 27 in the ABCA NCAA Division III Coaches Poll. The Big Blue pitching staff has played a central role, ranking fourth nationally in WHIP (1.18) and fifth in earned run average (2.94). Gavin Houchins leads the conference and ranks 19th in Division III with a 1.45 ERA, while also standing seventh nationally in WHIP at 0.81.
Sam Bushur ranks 15th in the country with five sacrifice flies. Millikin reached the 20-win mark last Saturday with an 8-0 shutout of Carthage behind seven scoreless innings from Brayden Saling.
Late-Inning Dramatics Define the Week
Several teams used late offense to secure key results during the week. Illinois Wesleyan came back from a 6-1 deficit on Wednesday to defeat Elmhurst 8-7, with Jack Novak hitting a game-tying home run in the eighth inning before Gage Wolfe delivered the go-ahead triple. The Titans also scored twice in the eighth inning of a 7-6 win over Illinois Tech on Tuesday.
Carthage used a nine-run second inning, including an AJ Gaca grand slam, in a 17-5 win over Lakeland on Thursday. Carroll also closed strongly in its 19-16 loss to North Central, scoring 11 runs over the final four innings.
