NAPERVILLE — Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Grace Fagan was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday morning following her performance at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling.
Fagan earned the first individual title of her collegiate career after finishing atop a 120-player field at Ironwood Golf Course. The Kirkwood, Mo. native posted a career-best 36-hole total of 147 with rounds of 68 and 79.
Her opening round on Saturday featured a career-low four-under-par 68 and included six birdies. The score also made Fagan the sixth player in Illinois Wesleyan program history to record a sub-70 round.
Windy conditions in Sunday’s final round produced higher scores across the field, but Fagan remained in position with a 79. She claimed the tournament title on a scorecard tiebreaker over Wisconsin-Stout’s Julia Imai, aided by a birdie on the 14th hole and her play over the final six holes. Illinois Wesleyan finished third in the 21-team event.
