Women’s Golf Notebook: Spring Action Continues Across the CCIW

NAPERVILLE — Spring women’s golf season is underway in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), with conference programs returning to competition across the region while preparing for a busy stretch of April events.

Results from Tuesday’s Judson Spring Invitational, along with a notable off-course assignment involving Illinois Wesleyan head coach Craig Onsrud at Augusta National Golf Club, highlighted the week’s developments.

Carthage’s “C” team finished 13th with a score of 397, led by Braelyn Davoust’s 91 and Megan Ward’s 96. The outing followed the program’s second-place finish at the Klash in Kentucky on March 28-29. Carthage will return to action Sunday against Franklin at French Lick Resort.

Thunder Struck: A Return to the Fairways
Wheaton returned to competition on Tuesday for the first time since the fall season and tied for 14th place in the 18-team field at the Judson Spring Invitational. The Thunder posted a team total of 407 at Randall Oaks Golf Club. Freshman Abby Crutchley paced the lineup with a 92, placing in a tie for 36th individually. Emma Lee followed with a 94, while Abi Edwards carded a 108 after joining the team following the fall soccer season. Molly Holbert completed the Thunder lineup with a 113. Augusta Assignment: A Titan at The Masters
Illinois Wesleyan head coach Craig Onsrud is spending the week at Augusta National Golf Club serving as swing coach for Brandon Holtz, a Bloomington native who earned a spot in the Masters field by winning the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship last September. Holtz, a former Illinois State basketball player, and Onsrud, a former Redbird golfer, both have longstanding ties to the Bloomington-Normal golf community.

Onsrud, who has coached 13 CCIW medalists during his nearly 25-year tenure at Illinois Wesleyan, is on site as Holtz begins play on Thursday. Illinois Wesleyan will also host the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling this Saturday and Sunday at Ironwood Golf Course.

Great Lakes Leaders: The Numerical Landscape
The most recent NCAA Division III Great Lakes regional rankings, updated Wednesday, include several CCIW golfers. Illinois Wesleyan’s Gigi Zera is ranked No. 70 nationally, followed by Nora Cerroni at No. 100 and Emily Gastrau at No. 124. Carthage’s Lexi Manteufel is listed at No. 112, while Augustana’s Sarah Bond is ranked No. 296.

Other conference golfers in the rankings include North Central’s Mallorie Clifton at No. 351 and Madison Place at No. 377, along with Millikin’s Ava Hackman at No. 386. The rankings reflect results from the 2025-26 season to date.

April Calendars: Mapping the Homestretch
Several conference programs are scheduled to compete at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling in Normal this weekend, including host Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana Millikin and North Central.

North Central will continue a spring schedule that already includes a seventh-place finish at the Port City Classic in March. North Park is slated to resume competition next Monday at the Benedictine Spring Invite.
