NAPERVILLE — With the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Golf Championship approaching later this month, conference teams continued spring competition across the Midwest and South against a mix of regional and national fields.
Last week’s results included team titles for Illinois Wesleyan, Augustana and North Park, along with several notable individual finishes.
Vikings Outpace the Field in Monmouth
Augustana recorded a team victory at the Fighting Scot Spring Invite, finishing first in a 10-team field with a score of 598. The Vikings were led by Calvin Short, who opened the event with a one-under-par 70 that included an eagle on the 14th hole. Liam Shannon and Patrick McGrath each added rounds of 72 during the first day of competition.
On the second day, Drake Stoudt posted an even-par 71 and Noah Ehlenbach followed with a 73 as Augustana remained atop the standings. Short finished the tournament at 149, Ehlenbach at 150, and Shannon, McGrath and Jacob Brokaw each concluded play at 151.
Titans Reach New Heights in the Volunteer State
Illinois Wesleyan traveled to Cordova, Tenn. for the Cochran Collegiate and won the tournament by 29 strokes. Playing at Colonial Country Club, the Titans turned in a 54-hole total of 886 (+22) to secure their third team title of the season.
Michael Spitzer led the field from the opening round, beginning the event with a five-under-par 67 and finishing at even-par 216 to claim his third career individual title. Pablo Castro placed second with a 218 (+2), while Kevin Schuh finished third at 222. Ryan Andrews tied for fifth at 225 and Aidan Healy tied for seventh at 227 as Illinois Wesleyan placed five golfers inside the top seven.
North Park and Carroll Shine in Racine
North Park finished first at the Firebird Spring Invitational last Thursday, posting a team score of 298 to lead the 18-team field at Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine, Wis. Alexander Remahl and Felix Pettersson helped pace the Vikings’ effort.
Carroll placed second in the event and was led by Fernando Cirajas, who tied for fourth individually with a 73 (+2). Mathias Werring tied for ninth with a 75 (+4), while Widar Burman Voss finished among the top 15 with a 77 (+6).
Host Carthage placed eighth, with Tayt Hager leading the Firebirds by tying for second individually after shooting a 72 (+1).
Carthage Ace Highlights Weekend in Milwaukee
Carthage followed its home event with a fifth-place finish at the Morningstar Masters, hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran. The Firebirds posted rounds of 293 and 306 for a 36-hole total of 599 (+23). Brett Vandergrift recorded a hole-in-one on the 11th hole during the event. Nick Barry was Carthage’s top finisher, placing 12th with rounds of 70 and 75 for a total of 145 (+1).
Carroll also competed at the tournament and finished eighth in the 12-team field. Sigge Lundin and Mathias Werring were the top scorers for the Pioneers, each finishing at 148 (+8), while Carter Morrison, competing as an individual, placed 22nd with a 149 (+5).
Thunder and Cardinals Face Regional Foes in Michigan
Wheaton and North Central each competed at the Bob Ebels Invitational in Allendale, Mich. last Friday and Saturday. Wheaton finished seventh in the 13-team field with a two-round score of 622. Wyatt Brown led the Thunder by shooting 76 in both rounds to tie for 12th place, while Tannen Reed, competing as an individual, tied for 19th with a 153.
North Central placed ninth with a team total of 626. Rylan Lother paced the Cardinals with a 152 (+10) to also finish in a tie for 12th, and his second round included an eagle on a 125-yard hole-out. Jake Delaney added a 155 to place 29th, while Carter Stephenson tied for 43rd at 159.
Big Blue Show Resilience in Memphis Finale
Millikin also competed at the Cochran Collegiate, finishing fifth in the 10-team field with a total score of 933. The Big Blue moved up one position during the final round. Jack Bollinger tied for seventh individually with a 54-hole score of 227, including rounds of 75, 75 and 77. Luke Bradley tied for 12th at 229. Martin Ammeux tied for 30th with a 239, while Trevor Biggerstaff tied for 32nd at 240.
Bettendorf Native Earns Conference Recognition
The CCIW announced on Tuesday that Augustana freshman Calvin Short was named Men’s Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. Short, a native of Bettendorf, Iowa, earned the honor following his medalist finish at the Fighting Scot Spring Invite. His opening-round 70, which included an eagle on the 14th hole, helped Augustana secure the team title. The award is the first of his career.
The Championship Runway Begins This Thursday
Conference competition continues this week with the CCIW Preview on Thursday at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill. Augustana, Carroll, Carthage, Elmhurst, Millikin, North Central and North Park are scheduled to compete in the one-day event.
Carroll, Carthage and Wheaton will then travel to Mundelein, Ill., for the Forester Spring Invite on Friday and Saturday.
On Monday, Elmhurst, Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin and Wheaton are slated to play in the Butts Classic, hosted by Millikin at the Country Club of Decatur. Augustana is also scheduled to compete in the Viking Invitational on April 25. The 2026 CCIW Men’s Golf Championship is set to begin on April 29 at Aldeen Golf Club.
