NAPERVILLE — Elmhurst swept the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday. Senior attacker Eli Spence was named Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week, while senior midfielder Tony Vazquez received Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week recognition after their performances in Elmhurst’s conference-opening win over Carroll.
Offensive: Eli Spence, Elmhurst
Spence earned the offensive award following Elmhurst’s 25-2 victory over the Pioneers on Saturday. The senior from Snoqualmie, Wash. scored five goals and added one assist to finish with six points. He also contributed three caused turnovers and two ground balls in the win. Elmhurst’s 25 goals marked the fifth-highest single-game total in program history.
Defensive: Tony Vazquez, Elmhurst
Vazquez was selected as the Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week after going 10-for-10 on faceoffs in the first half against Carroll. The Cottage Grove, Minn. native also collected six ground balls, helping Elmhurst control possession throughout his time on the field.
