NAPERVILLE — North Central sophomore Philipp Wottgen was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after helping the Cardinals extend their winning streak to eight matches with three conference victories over the weekend.

Wottgen posted a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and did not drop a set across the three duals. The Leinburg, Germany native opened the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Carroll on Friday morning before recording a 6-0, 6-0 result against Elmhurst later that day. He added a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday to earn his fifth straight singles win as North Central remained in first place in the conference standings.

In doubles play, Wottgen and Jack Briggs went 3-0 at the No. 2 position. The pair allowed one game over the three matches, beginning with a 6-1 win over Carroll and following with 6-0 victories against Elmhurst and Illinois Wesleyan. North Central secured the doubles point in each dual and extended its streak to 27 consecutive match wins.
