NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) has announced its latest Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Week on Wednesday, recognizing performances from North Central’s Randy Reed and Augustana’s Landon Wierenga.
The selections follow their respective efforts at the Wheaton Invitational and the 81st Viking Olympics, where both individuals recorded marks that rank among the conference leaders early in the outdoor season.
Track: Randy Reed, North Central
Reed, a senior from Chicago, Ill., was named the Track Student-Athlete of the Week after winning both sprint events at the Wheaton Invitational. He posted times of 10.62 in the 100-meter dash and 21.38 in the 200-meter dash, with the 100-meter result marking a personal best and moving him into fourth place in North Central program history.
His performances currently lead the CCIW in both events, while his 200-meter time ranks 18th nationally and his 100-meter mark ranks 34th among NCAA Division III competitors.
Field: Landon Wierenga, Augustana
Earning Field Student-Athlete of the Week honors, Wierenga, a junior from Eureka, Ill., produced multiple top conference marks in the throwing events at the 81st Viking Olympics.
His hammer throw of 59.66 meters leads the CCIW, ranks fifth nationally, and places fourth in Augustana program history. He also recorded a discus throw of 48.10 meters, which ranks second in the conference and 25th nationally, in addition to posting the fourth-best javelin mark in the league. Wierenga added a personal-best performance in the shot put during the meet.
