CCIW Recognizes Woods, Frere for Outdoor Track & Field Performances

NAPERVILLE — Performances at the Wheaton Invitational and the 81st Viking Olympics resulted in Elmhurst’s Carmela Woods and Augustana’s Charlotte Frere earning College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
 
The efforts from Frere helped Augustana finish with 200 points and the team title at its home meet, while Woods’ season-opening results established her among the conference leaders in both sprint events.
 
Track: Carmela Woods, Elmhurst
At the Wheaton Invitational, Woods opened her outdoor season with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash and a runner-up result in the 100-meter dash. The sophomore from Evergreen Park, Ill., won the 200 in 25.17 seconds, which currently ranks first in the CCIW and 44th in NCAA Division III. She also posted a personal-best time of 12.19 seconds in the 100, placing second in the event while moving to second in the conference and 42nd nationally.
 
Field: Charlotte Frere, Augustana
Frere earned the field honor after a strong performance in the throws at the 81st Viking Olympics. Her discus mark of 50.12 meters currently leads NCAA Division III by more than two meters and stands as the top mark in the CCIW. The Augustana senior also recorded the conference’s leading shot put mark and added a top-10 league performance in the hammer throw.
