IWU's Zera, Henry Headline CCIW Women’s Golf Postseason Recognition

NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its annual women’s golf postseason awards on Thursday, with Illinois Wesleyan earning all three major honors following another championship season.

Sophomore Gigi Zera was selected as the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Year, freshman Julia Henry was named the CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year and the Illinois Wesleyan coaching staff received CCIW Coaching Staff of the Year recognition. The awards followed a season in which the Titans won their 20th conference championship and fourth consecutive league title.

Zera, a sophomore from Glenview, Ill., posted a 76.8 stroke average during the season and continued her position among the top players in NCAA Division III. She is currently the top-ranked golfer in the conference and No. 74 nationally in Division III according to Clippd. Her season included six top-20 finishes and four top-five placements in 10 events. Zera earned her first collegiate individual victory at the SMSU Classic in March, finishing with a career-best 36-hole score of 145. She opened the tournament with an even-par 70.

At the CCIW Championship in October, Zera tied for third place and earned All-CCIW First Team honors for the second consecutive season.

Henry played in every event for IWU and finished the season with a 79.5 stroke average. The mark ranks as the fourth-lowest single-season average by a freshman in program history. Her first season included five top-10 finishes. The freshman from Homewood, Ill. closed the CCIW Championship tied for third place with Zera, carding a three-round score of 227 with rounds of 75, 77 and 75.

Henry also posted top-15 finishes at the SMSU Classic and added top-20 efforts at the WashU Spring Invite and UW-Whitewater Spring Invite.

Led by head coach Craig Onsrud, the Illinois Wesleyan coaching staff was recognized after guiding the Titans to their fourth consecutive CCIW title. The staff also includes Patrick Freeman, Tom Hundman, Kathy Niepagen and Lexi Onsrud. Illinois Wesleyan won the conference championship by 43 strokes and placed five players among the top eight individuals. All five earned All-CCIW First Team honors.

The award marks the second consecutive conference coaching honor for Onsrud, who was named CCIW Coach of the Year in 2024-25 following his first season as head coach.

Illinois Wesleyan is currently ranked No. 23 in the WGCA Coaches Poll. The Titans earned the CCIW’s automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship, scheduled for May 19-22 in Palm Desert, Calif.
