NAPERVILLE, Ill. - North Central College’s Kate Herlihy claimed College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Women’s Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week honors after posting a 6-3 record across singles and doubles competition.
Herlihy went 2-0 against Wheaton College, earning a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles before battling back for a 0-6, 7-5, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles. The senior also made a deep run at the ITA Regional Championship, advancing to the consolation semifinals in singles with victories over opponents from Illinois Wesleyan University, The College of Wooster and Adrian College. Her run included a 6-4, 6-1 win over Illinois Wesleyan’s No. 1 singles player.
Herlihy also picked up an 8-1 first-round doubles victory over Illinois College at the ITA Regional Championship, finishing the week 4-2 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.
Herlihy and the Cardinals fell to Illinois Wesleyan yesterday in a tightly-contested 4-3 loss, but return to action on Oct. 7 against Carthage College.
