NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Sheila Walsh, Carthage’s Mindy Harrington, North Central’s Mike Spain and Josh Winder were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Tuesday.

Walsh, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, finished first (second to an unattached athlete) in the 400-meter dash at North Central’s Cardinal Opener, competing against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Chicago, Carthage, Emory, UIC and Benedictine on Friday. Her time of 58.47 is third on the NCAA Honor Roll, a provisional qualifier and a lifetime best (indoor or outdoor). This marks the first time that Walsh has provisionally qualified for Nationals as an individual. Walsh also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.74, which was a lifetime best (indoor or outdoor). She also split a time of 58.7 in the 4x400. She is an English major.

Harrington, a senior from Spring Grove, Ill., and Richmond-Burton High School, finished second in the weight throw (53-6 ½) and third in the shot put (48-3 ¾) during the Cardinal Opener. Her mark in the shot put was an NCAA automatic qualifier while also breaking her own school record set a week earlier. Her mark in the weight throw was also a provisional qualifier. Harrington is an Exercise Sport Science major.

Spain, a senior from Schaumburg, Ill., and Schaumburg High School, finished first in the 5,000-meter run during the Cardinal Opener, winning with a time of 14:30.53. His time was an NCAA provisional qualifier, a new track record, and is currently second in NCAA Division III. Spain is a Management Major.

Winder, a sophomore from Joliet, Ill., and Plainfield South High School, won the pole vault at the Cardinal Opener with an NCAA automatic qualifying height of 16-8 ¾. His mark is currently ranked first in NCAA Division III. Winder is a Physical Education major.
