CCIW Track and Field Representatives Compete on the International Stage

A pair of CCIW high jumpers represented the United States at the FISU Americas Games in Lima, Peru.

LIMA, Peru - Four representatives from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin competed and coached for the United States at the FISU Americas Games in Lima, Peru. Wheaton College’s Grace Crowder and Carthage College’s Jack Tilton competed, while Elmhurst University coaches David Stone and Jim Warren served on the United States coaching staff. 

Sanctioned by the International University Sports Federation, the FISU Americas Games bring together countries from North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. This year, the event brought more than 2,000 student-athletes from over 20 countries to Lima to compete across 14 different sports.

On Thursday, July 30, Crowder competed alongside United States representatives Alaysha Veal from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Olivia Jameson from Illinois Tech in the women’s high jump. Crowder placed fifth overall against a strong international field with a best mark of 1.50 meters (4 feet, 11 inches).

The following day, Tilton competed in the men’s high jump as the only American in the field and earned the gold medal with a winning height of 1.97 meters (6 feet, 6 inches). 

Stone coached the United States high jumpers and guided two American athletes to gold medals. Warren coached the 400- and 800-meter groups, helping the United States earn five medals across the two events. 

The FISU Americas Games concluded Saturday, Aug. 1, with the United States earning 40 track and field medals. CCIW representatives contributed to six of those medal-winning performances as competitors and coaches.

The next edition of the FISU Americas Games will be held in Santiago, Chile, in 2027.
