Wheaton, Illinois Wesleyan to play for CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament title on Saturday

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – For the 10th time in conference history and third-straight year, Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton will face each other for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Soccer Tournament title on Saturday.
 
The two teams will play at 7 p.m. at Wheaton as the Thunder look to win their 13th tournament title in school history and first since 2015. The Titans are looking to win their third tournament title in program history and second-straight. Wheaton defeated Illinois Wesleyan 2-0 on October 16.
 
Wheaton is 6-1-2 against Illinois Wesleyan in tournament championship games as the Titans advanced on penalty kicks in 2010, while the Thunder advanced on PKs a year later.
 
Illinois Wesleyan defeated Carroll 2-1 in Wednesday’s semifinal matchup as freshman midfielder/forward Cameron Hindel and sophomore midfielder Jordan Ellerbrock scored goals in the 52nd and 59th minutes respectively.
 
Wheaton beat Elmhurst 3-1 on Wednesday as the Thunder jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals by junior midfielder Madison Peebles, junior midfielder Anna Saunders and junior forward Chelsea Gnan.
 
The winner of Saturday’s championship contest will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. The Titans have qualified for the last four NCAA postseason tournaments including a semifinal appearance in 2014, while the Thunder qualified for every tournament between 1997 and 2016 including national titles in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
