North Central's Patel, Carthage's Austin named CCIW Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- North Central's Dhruvil Patel and Carthage's Aaron Austin were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Patel, a senior from Skokie, Illinois and Niles North High School (Accounting major), earned a seven-second personal best in the 5,000-meter run at the Stanford University Cardinal Classic on Friday. His time of 13:51.4 set a new NCAA Division III record, eclipsing Carleton College's Dan Kramer, who held the record for 42 years with a time of 13:53.2. Patel was the only Division III runner and finished 12th in the twenty-man field.

Austin, a sophomore from Chicago and Steinmetz High School (Exercise & Sport Science major), placed third in the discus at Augustana's Meet of Champions on Friday. His mark of 165-2 (50.35 meters) was a personal record that currently ranks first in the CCIW and eighth on the NCAA Division III national list compiled by TFRRS.org.
