Three CCIW Men Secure All-America Finishes at NCAA Outdoor Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Carthage’s Tyler Rose finished as the national runner-up in the discus to lead the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men at the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held Thursday through Saturday at UW-La Crosse.
 
Rose recorded a mark of 54.66 meters in the discus to place second nationally and earn First Team All-America honors. His performance accounted for eight of Carthage’s 11 team points at the championship. Rose also competed in the shot put, placing 22nd nationally.
 
The CCIW added two First Team All-America performances in the 400-meter dash, as Carthage’s Dylan Parker and Illinois Wesleyan’s Evan Lowder each advanced to the final. Parker placed sixth in 47.06 seconds, scoring three additional points for the Firebirds. Lowder finished eighth in 47.11 seconds after qualifying for the final with a preliminary time of 47.30. The performance marked the sixth All-America honor of Lowder’s career across indoor and outdoor competition.
 
Augustana’s Landon Wierenga placed 11th in the discus with a mark of 49.04 meters to earn Second Team All-America recognition. Wierenga also represented the Vikings in the hammer throw, placing 21st nationally.
 
Carroll’s Brian Smith finished 11th in the 400-meter preliminaries in his first appearance at the outdoor national championship. The freshman recorded a time of 47.37 seconds after also qualifying for the NCAA indoor championship earlier this year.
 
Carthage’s Jacob Curulewski competed in both distance events at the national meet, placing 11th in the 5,000-meter run in 14:34.00 and 16th in the 10,000-meter run in 30:13.64. The Firebirds were also represented by Jack Tilton, who finished 20th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.98 meters.
 
North Central sent two competitors to the championship, with Ben Balboa placing 17th in the discus at 47.87 meters and BJ Sorg finishing 22nd in the 10,000-meter run in 30:52.75.
 
Carthage led the CCIW men’s programs in the team standings, tying for 22nd place with 11 points. Illinois Wesleyan tied for 68th place with one point.
