North Central's Patel wins national title, Wheaton's Embretson named all-American during Thursday's NCAA Track & Field Championships

GENEVA, Ohio -- North Central's Dhruvil Patel earned a national title and Wheaton's Aryn Embretson picked up an all-America honor during Day One of the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute.

Patel, a senior from Skokie, Illinois and Nile North High School, won the men's 10,000-meter run for the second-straight season as he clocked a time of 30:14.05, just edging out second place finisher Lucas Mueller of Carleton, who finished with a time of 30:14.26. Patel is now a five-time individual national champion as he also claimed the top spot in the 2018 and 2019 indoor 5,000-meter run, as well as the individual title at the 2018 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships last November. 

Embretson, a senior from Eagan, Minnesota and Eagan High School, took fourth in the women's 10,000-meter run as she posted a time of 36:23.63, which was nearly eight seconds faster than sixth-place finisher Kate MacCary of Middlebury (36:31.54).
