Gabe Pommier and Carroll's
Steven Hermsen were selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.
Pommier, a senior from Mahomet, Illinois and Mahomet-Seymour High School, slashed seven seconds off of his personal record in winning the 1,500-meter run during the Benedictine Invitational. His time of 3:47.29 is second all-time in program history and ranks first in both the CCIW and on the NCAA Division III national list. Additionally, Pommier won the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:52.98, which ranks second in the CCIW and seventh nationally.
Hermsen, a junior from DePere, Wisconsin and DePere High School, won the discus at the Carroll Pioneer Invitational with a school-record throw of 54.46 meters (178-8). This throw currently ranks first in both the CCIW and in Division III. He also won the shot put with a throw of 15.15 meters (49-8 1/2) and placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 45.98 meters (150-10).
