NAPERVILLE – Just three days after toppling the nation’s top-ranked wrestler at 116 pounds, North Central’s Jaslynn Gallegos is the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Gallegos, ranked second nationally at 116 pounds by the NWCA on Jan. 2, was 3-0 for the Cardinals at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky. She needed only 55 seconds Friday to defeat Sacred Heart’s Nohea Munoz via fall.
On Saturday in the team semifinal against Colorado Mesa, it was a 23-second fall for the junior from Brighton, Colo. against Carisa Epling. It set the stage for Gallegos’s pin of top-ranked Samara Chavez of King just 55 seconds into the first period.
